<![CDATA[Cancer Proofing Yourself]]>Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:27:40 GMThttp://pureandsimpleorganics.org/blog/-cancer-proofing-yourselfWritten By: David J. Reid R.D.

Cancer is rapidly closing in on heart disease as the number one killer in the United States. There is likely nobody in the world who doesn’t know someone who has contracted cancer or died from it. I lost both of my parents to this dreaded disease and as a result, I am an avid proponent of any method to help people avoid it if possible. Some will be fatalistic and say “if your genetics are predisposed to getting cancer, you likely will get it.” While I agree genetics cannot be denied, you can use strategies to tip the odds in you favor. It starts with diet and what you put in and on your body. The amount of chemicals that are in most commercial skin care and personal hygiene products are alarming. I have a strong background in chemistry and many of the compounds on the label of these products escape me.

So how can one go about “cancer proofing” their bodies. First, you need to make a commitment to learning what is healthy and what is not. As a Registered Dietitian and life-long health advocate, I see how many people just don’t honestly know what is healthy and what is not. When it comes to food, I tell clients to eat close to God. If it doesn’t run, swim, fly, crawl or grow on a tree or a vine, it likely isn’t healthy. My 6 year old daughter once asked me “Did God make Pop Tarts?” I said no, God made the person who made Pop Tarts. There are many good resources out there by people like Dr. Mercola and Dr. Matthias Rath where people can find many natural alternatives to dealing with cancer and disease. Hippocrates himself said “let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Yes, this is the same Hippocrates that medical doctors sign his Hippocratic Oath when they begin their medical careers.

Food aside, what you put on your body daily has a profound impact on your health. The largest organ in the human body is the skin. It is a semi-permeable membrane that allows some things through while providing a barrier to bacteria and viruses that would do us harm. The problem is, many of our current commercial products have chemicals that are made to be “trans-dermal” or have the ability to penetrate our skin. Babies have what is known as the Vernix Caseosa, a wax-like covering that keeps the babies skin from becoming water logged; it also acts as a bacterioside and skin protectant until the babies skin can mature and provide the baby protection after birth. So our skin is vital to our health. Most people give their skin no thought, especially men.

What should you look for in a product line to protect your skin and your health? You should first start by reading the labels. If you can’t pronounce words on the ingredient list or the ingredient list looks like a novel, it’s probably chemical laden. Sadly, many common ingredients are known carcinogens. To make the waters even murkier, you have some companies who posture themselves as providers of organic hygiene products that knowingly put some bad things in. These are companies that know they can charge a higher margin for “organic” products. One such ingredient found in a new study commissioned by the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) found that many leading "natural" and "organic" brand shampoos, body washes, and lotions contain the carcinogenic contaminant 1,4-Dioxane. 1,4-Dioxane is considered a carcinogen by the state of California. It is a chemical cousin of a petrochemical known as ethylene oxide used in ethoxylation, a process that makes harsh ingredients behave more mildly. It is also considered a neuro-toxicant, a kidney toxicant, and respiratory toxicant according to the California EPA. It has now found its way into the groundwater due to its overuse in manufacturing products and is considered a major contaminant.

AVOID PRODUCTS WITH THE FOLLOWING ON THE INGREDIENT LIST:
  • Myreth
  • Oleth
  • Laureth
  • Ceteareth
  • Any other “eth”
  • PEG
  • Polyethylene
  • Polyethylene glycol
  • Polyoxyethylene
  • Oxynol

If you want to find a good local company here in Michigan that provides a wide array of skin care and personal hygiene products, look no further than www.pureandsimpleorganics.com . They are a Michigan based company that is dedicated to the manufacturing and sale of nothing but pure organic products. So if you are looking to make a switch to a product line that will help you to do the best you can to not poison your vital skin, this is a place to start. Katrina is the founder and is a lifelong health advocate. She developed this line out of necessity to help with her daughter’s skin, which is very sensitive and has patches of eczema. The business has since added many products to its line and is now more or less a one stop shop for all your personal hygiene, skin care, and beauty needs.

<![CDATA[The Best Eye Lash Serum]]>Thu, 19 Nov 2015 16:19:55 GMThttp://pureandsimpleorganics.org/blog/the-best-eye-lash-serum
November 15, 2015

Kimber Leigh

I don't normally promote other peoples products on my website. However, I am so impressed with an Organic Lash Serum, I had to write a post about it.The first photo was right before I started using the Eyelash Growth Serum every night from Pure & Simple Organics. You can find the product retailing for $24.

The next 2 photos were taken on the 6-8 week mark. You can see that the lashes did thicken, lengthen, and grow in a bit. I used the same organic Regular Black Mascara every day as well.

The last photo makes me look like I am wearing false lashes. A question everyone likes to ask me (especially since I had a serious addiction to them). My eyes were often swelling, watery, and and red when I had the false lashes on. That was before I knew most lash glues contained a toxin called formaldehyde.

*Formaldehyde has other health concerns such as; "HIGH concerns: Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive),Occupational hazards; Other LOW concerns: Data gaps, Ecotoxicology, Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs)You can find more information on formaldehyde from http://www.ewg.org/

<![CDATA[Pure & Simple Organics - Simply Decadent!]]>Mon, 12 Oct 2015 16:37:48 GMThttp://pureandsimpleorganics.org/blog/pure-simple-organics-simply-decadent Being a Michigander, every chance I get to bring a little bit of "home" into my home is a true passion. So much so, I almost hugged a convenience store cooler yesterday when I found Faygo Cream Soda and Red Pop IN STOCK!!!! Anyone who has ever spent significant time away from your home state knows that exact moment I'm talking about =) Anyways...

A long time friend, Tanya Coraci, contacted me a few weeks ago in regards to a new, organic health and beauty line founded out of Macomb, Michigan by an acquaintance of hers, Katrina Reid. Naturally, I was immediately intrigued as I am a HUGE advocate of women in business, small business ownership, and well, everything Michigan! And with the current, massive movement towards holistic, organic living I jumped on the opportunity presented to try these new products. Tanya graciously packaged up a TON of samples, and here we are today!

     Background

As previously stated, Katrina Reid is the creator and owner of Pure and Simple Organics out of Macomb, Michigan. When Katrina's daughter, now 5, was just a little one, she suffered from eczema patches on her sensitive baby skin. After 3 years of watching her suffer with the skin condition, Katrina decided to take matters into her own hands creating her flagship product: Organic Body Butter! The love of a Mother, who has a love for healthy living, is how this company was founded. Honestly, how beautiful is that?!?! Currently, Pure and Simple Organics has a product lines for Baby, Bath & Body, and Face & Beauty with over 20 items to choose from and growing!

     Review

I was given a plethora of items by Tanya to try, so please bear with and enjoy!

      Peppermint Lip Balm
Upon first look, I was smitten with the pretty pink color and had to try it immediately as I'm totally a lip balm girl! The hydration felt natural, not crazy wet, and it went on really smooth! Within minutes, the cracked areas on my lips felt softer and a little less noticeable! The scent wasn't overwhelming and the taste was neutral which is a total plus since it didn't entice me to lick my lips like a crazy lady! It is also important to know that it did not take a lot to make my lips feel hydrated. A once over was perfect for a few hours!

      Body Butter in Honey Almond
The scent was light and smelled really good as it was a great combination of "warm" and "sweet". The butter just really melted into the skin leaving it feel nice and hydrated without that greasy feeling some body butters leave! I generally have really dry skin and this stuff made my hands and elbows soft after the first use! Honestly, this stuff is amazing and a must have in my opinion!

      Body Wash in Honey Almond
The scent was similar to the Body Butter; nice, light and oh so perfect. The body wash had a nice lather, not over the top crazy like other brands, and it left the skin feeling clean without over-drying. DO NOT use a pouf with this stuff though! I crocheted myself a pouf a day or so before I received these goodies and thought I could kill two birds on this one. Nope, epic fail. The body wash doesn't lather up as well and it takes like 5x more than what is really needed. So, using a pouf is a total waste! I had much better luck lathering up the old fashioned way: my two hands! This is also a great way to govern how much of the product you really need to use so you can cut back on waste.

      Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner
If anyone has ever lived with me they know that I am proof that 'Squatches do in fact exist. My hair is stick straight, long, and super thick to boot. For women with this type of hair, it is hard to find an organic shampoo and conditioner that you don't have to use a half bottle at a time to cleanse and condition. I was pleasantly surprised that this shampoo took roughly the same amount as "drug store" brands (for me that is about a half dollar size dollop). The shampoo had a nice lather, light scent, and rinsed cleanly. The conditioner on the other hand took a little more to fully saturate my unruly locks! So, the next shower I took another approach to see if I could stretch the amount of product I had. Amazingly, it totally worked! I shampooed my whole head with focus on the roots and shafts. When going back through with the conditioner, I focused more on the shafts and ends and just ran my hands over the roots at the end. I then let the conditioner set as I went on to cleaning my face and then finally rinsed! It worked really well and my hair felt great afterwards. Bonus, I could easily comb it out AND my hair had a little bit more "life" to it!
Side note: If anyone has ever lived with me they can testify that I am proof that 'Squatches do in fact exist. I shed like a beast and once a month I am certain my husband wants to kill me when he has to pull small animal-like wookies from the drain. On my last day of use, I did notice that the obscene amount of hair loss was a little less than normal. Unfortunately, I didn't have anymore to test this finding further but it is something I am going to be contacting Katrina about to get her input!

      Face Wash

I have one word for this stuff.....AMAZING! After cleansing, my face felt refreshed, not tight, and totally clean. There was no filmy residue left over like some other brands leave. It really, really, really felt good and I cannot express that enough. With continual usage, I was able to clear up some break outs and clear up some sores from my "popping and picking" habit. In fact, I actually went to the grocery store the other day and I only brushed on some loose powder before I left. Pretty sure it has been YEARS since my skin has given me that much confidence! In love!
Fun fact: I have used my souffle cup sample twice a day for a few weeks and I am still not out. pretty sure I may still have another couple of weeks left in it! As with many of these products, the reoccurring theme is "A little goes a LOOOONG way!"

       Anti - Aging Serum
I am new to the anti-aging market of products so this was a fun one to try. I applied this serum at bedtime and it went on really smooth. After application. my face never felt greasy or oily and it gave great hydration. Fortunately for me, I haven't developed many fine lines so it was hard to tell if this actually had any sort of impact on those! As a moisturizing agent, it worked wonderfully for me. This is also another product that doesn't require a lot to get the job done!

       Coffee & Cocoa Face Scrub
Have you ever found a product that you just want to fill a bathtub with, submerge yourself, and drink wine straight out of the bottle with multitudes of candles lit?!?! Well, if you haven't I have and this is my dream product! As a huge coffee and chocolate lover, the smell of this was right up my alley. When using, the aroma is totally invigorating which gave me a great start to my morning! The grounds were very fine so the skin didn't get beat up during the exfoliation process. After rinsing, I did notice that my skin felt a little "filmy" for lack of a better word. I followed up exfoliation with the face wash and my skin felt perfect! Use the two products back to back once a week and you'll thank Katrina later! Also, this product falls into the category of a little goes a long way!

       Deodorant
When I opened my little cup, the smell was so delicate and powdery it made me feel all girly and smiley. After my shower, I applied the product directly to my underarms and it soaked in nicely. The lingering smell was not overwhelming, but very pleasant and the product left my skin feeling soft. However, if you are of the 'Squatch variety like myself, this product is not for you. After a few hours, my personal brand of "stank" was raging in all its righteous glory. My husband even made a comment about something smelling ripe around me (he thought it was the Monster) and I had to inform him that sadly enough, it was me. I was hoping that continual usage would improve effectiveness but, this was not the case. After three days usage, I HAD to go back to my clinical strength, aluminum laden, antiperspirant stench stopper!
UPDATE: It is confirmed that this does work well for normal, not overly sweaty people! I had my bestie try this out and she said it worked perfectly for her!

       Stretch Mark Cream
This is another product I was totally impressed with. I applied the cream every night before bed so it could really soak in and after a week of use, I could visibly see a difference in my "Monster Marks". For me, this is something of a miracle. My child was over 9lbs coming out and I gained over 50lbs with her. At this point in life, I have essentially given up on having any sort of decent looking tummy ever again! However, being able to see the marks fading was impressive and such a wonderful uplifting experience. For any woman that has stretch marks, I would look into this stuff! This was one of those products I was sad about when I used my last application!

       Headache Stick
Over the last few weeks, my husband has been out of town training. This has left me alone to finish my last semester of college, run a business, maintain a blog, train a puppy, not allow the Monster to die, not lose any of the cats, and essentially to not let the house burn down or blow up! Needless to say, tension headaches have been a daily occurrence in my life. The headache stick has a nice minty scent that isn't overwhelmingly powerful like Vick's or similar products. It easily rubs into the skin, just like all of the other cream products mentioned, and doesn't leave a greasy feeling afterwards. Using alone didn't take my headaches fully away, but it the smell did relax me enough to let go of some of the stress. On some of the "bad" days, before I went to bed I applied this to my neck, shoulders, and tip of nose to help relax and soothe the stress away and to help my slightly stuffy nose while I slept. Last but not least, it doesn't take a ton during application!

<![CDATA[Toxin Free Deodorant]]>Fri, 20 Feb 2015 12:35:54 GMThttp://pureandsimpleorganics.org/blog/toxin-free-deodorantBy Keri Hessel - Pure & Simple Organics Sales Representative Picture
I once did an interesting experiment; (it was actually an accidental discovery). Around 4 years ago I decided to detoxify. I wanted to get pregnant but I was just a little bit worried about the bio-accumulation of chemicals in my body. So, I did a lot of cleanses. One day, shortly after I started a cleanse, my husband and I went for an long run with some friends. It was an INTENSIVE run, which involved running up a small mountain. About fifteen minutes into the run I realized I had forgotten to put on deodorant. I discreetly did a smell check, and I was surprised that I wasn't stinky. It was weird, because it was HOT and HUMID and we were all sweating, profusely. I think the cleanse had something to do with this.

Is it possible that clean eating can replace the need for deodorant? Maybe, but I still wear it just in case.

Unfortunately, deodorant was a rare commodity in South Korea. It is not something Koreans use so it was difficult to find and very expensive there. At first I thought that was really strange, but it's obviously just a cultural difference. When I first moved to Korea I packed 5 deodorants in my suitcase. (Tom's was the brand I selected). I had recently switched from a different brand of deodorant/antiperspirant that contained aluminum. (bleh)

What's wrong with aluminum in deodorant? There is some evidence that it may be linked to breast cancer. A more recent study can be found here. Even if it is not conclusive evidence, I would rather be safe than sorry.

I am not going to lie, I really didn't like Tom's brand. I didn't care for the smell, I thought it was very strong. (I purchased the Lavender scent). But I was even less fond of the idea of absorbing aluminum into my body. So, Tom's it was, until I could find something better.

A few years later I was introduced to the deodorant stone. My mother-in-law told me about it and I thought it was worth a try. I was able to order it from iherb, which was a big bonus for me. (iherb is one of the few websites that has inexpensive shipping into South Korea). It seemed to work, but boy did it STING if you applied it after shaving.

I have made my own deodorant a few times. I found a recipe that worked well, but it wasn't ideal. It was a little too powdery, leaving residue behind on my clothes. If I changed my shirt after applying deodorant I had to redress carefully, otherwise, there were white powdery marks everywhere. I am sure I could eventually find a good recipe, but now I don't have to.

I have FINALLY found a deodorant that is effective, non-toxic, and practical. The Pure & Simple Organics deodorant is aluminum free and it does not contain baking soda, (which is known to irritate the skin). The deodorant is also gluten and sulfate free!

Here is a list of the ingredients and coinciding benefits, (information taken directly from the Pure & Simple Organics website) :

  • Organic Virgin Coconut Oil: Raw, unrefined coconut oil has wonderful antibacterial properties. This is important in those armpits, right?
  • Organic Grapeseed Oil: Skin tightening; it has astringent-like properties, thus stimulating the tissue to contract and draw together. Reduces Swelling.
  • Refined Shea Butter: This is another one of those amazing things that nature gives us. Raw shea butter is high in vitamins A and E and is incredibly soothing for your skin. Sounds like a good thing to put in such a vulnerable place, like your armpits, huh!?
  • Beeswax: Raw beeswax (all-natural, unrefined, no additives, etc.) helps to stabilize this recipe so it isn’t runny. Beeswax is another inherently excellent choice in skincare products, as it does not clog pores, but it does help the moisturizing properties of the butters and oils in this recipe to ‘lock’ into your skin so they can do their jobs.
  • Arrowroot Powder: This is a go-to for deodorant recipes, for good reason. Arrowroot not only helps to serve as a thickener in this deodorant, but it also has the power to help draw out toxins.
  • Diatomaceous Earth (DE): Here’s where things may really get a bit different than what you typically see in homemade deodorant recipes. DE is almost entirely silica, which is a crucial trace element needed by our bodies, and one in which many are deficient. By adding DE into your homemade deodorant, you are giving your sensitive skin a nice dose of DE (essentially, silica) which helps with sensitive areas of skin that might become rashy and it also helps to draw out toxins.
  • Glycerin: A natural preservative to help the product’s shelf life.
Available scents include: lavender chamomile, baby powder, lime, and patchouli. (My favorite is the lavender chamomile).

The best part about this deodorant is you can apply it immediately after shaving and it does not STING!! This is a huge selling point for me, I don't like to wait too long after showering, I might forget to apply it.

<![CDATA[Effects of DEET]]>Wed, 02 Jul 2014 14:56:47 GMThttp://pureandsimpleorganics.org/blog/effects-of-deetHello everyone and almost Happy Independence Day! Since the warm weather is officially here, and people are camping, golfing, and working around the yard, I figured it would be an opportune time to research more and write about DEET. We all know that DEET is the active ingredient used in bug repellent, but what are the effects on us and the environment?

I have to say that I used to be a regular user of OFF! Bug Repellent. I would go camping, and spray it on myself (and others) on a regular basis. However, as I became more aware of the chemicals used in everyday products, I began to look for alternatives.

The first thing I found on the MANY websites I viewed was from Wikipedia. Who doesn't look at Wikipedia these days? So, here is what it said, "As a precaution, manufacturers advise that DEET products should not be used under clothing or on damaged skin, and that preparations be washed off after they are no longer needed or between applications". My first thoughts were, wow, they advise you wash it off after no longer needing it on? So, who goes camping, has a camp fire, stays up late...then goes straight to bed with no shower? MOST CAMPERS DO.

I also found this interesting fact, "DEET is an effective solvent, and may dissolve some plastics, rayon, spandex, other synthetic fabrics, and painted or varnished surfaces including nail polish". Hmmmmm. Why are we using products on our skin that can dissolve materials? Well, I gave this one a try, and it DOES dissolve plastic and damage the varnish on wood. Crazy!

Now, let me tell you that almost every place I researched mentioned that DEET use could result in problems with muscle coordination, muscle weakness, walking or even memory and cognition. They also said to use caution when using it; wear long sleeve pants and shirts, so you can spray over your clothing and not directly onto your skin; only use products with 10% DEET or less (and max 3 times per day) on children ages 2-12; and not to use on children under the age of 2 years.

Other general guidelines included:

  • Do not apply over cuts, wounds, or irritated skin.
  • Do not apply to hands or near eyes and mouth of young children.
  • Do not allow young children to apply this product.
  • Do not use under clothing.
  • Do not spray in enclosed areas.
  • Don't use any product that has DEET and sunscreen mixed together (as it will absorb faster into your skin).
  • Apply DEET only to exposed skin and/or clothing. Don't put DEET on skin that will be covered by clothing -- this will cause your skin to absorb the DEET.
  • Don't spray it directly on your face.
  • Avoid inhaling it.
  • Don't apply DEET near food or use it in enclosed areas
Now, as for the environment, DEET has little known effects. As it is so commonly used, it has often been found in wastewater and other water bodies affected by wastewater. Though DEET is not likely to bioaccumulate, it does have a slight toxicity for coldwater fish like the rainbow trout and the tilapia.

So, why are we using DEET at all? There are plenty of natural, environmentally friendly products we can use instead that are just as effective.

This is why I started making my own Bug Repellent Lotion....and now Bug Repellent Spray. I started with making bug repellent lotion bars, but then quickly realized how gross it was to share a bar with other dirty, hairy people! Yuck! So, I decided to make it as a lotion this year. As the lotion can only be applied to skin (but is extremely effective), we quickly realized we also needed a spray to protect us from getting bit through our clothes.

How effective is my bug repellent? Well, let me tell you that my daughter is known as what they call a 'mosquito magnet'! She would come home from camping and have welts all over her that eventually turned into scabs from her itching them so much. Now, she goes camping a few days almost every week and may only come back with a few on her feet....and I think it is because her feet sweat and the lotion wears off too often to reapply.

There are so many effective, natural ingredients you can use instead of DEET. Below is a list of mosquito repelling ingredients I use within my bug repellent lotion and spray:

Bug Repellent Lotion: Rosemary, Cloves, Thyme, Cinnamon, Catnip, Mint Leaf, Lavender Essential Oil, Lemon Essential Oil.

Bug Repellent Spray: Catnip Oil, Rosemary Oil, Clove Oil, Cajeput Oil, Lavender Oil, Cinnamon Oil, Eucalyptus Oil.

FACT: Did you know that Catnip is known to be even MORE effective than DEET??? So after all of this, why use DEET? There are so many other natural and effective alternatives.

Happy camping, golfing and plain old just enjoying the summer!

<![CDATA[Benefits Of Coconut Oil]]>Mon, 23 Jun 2014 14:55:53 GMThttp://pureandsimpleorganics.org/blog/benefits-of-coconut-oilThere are MANY uses for Coconut Oil. I use Coconut Oil for EVERYTHING from cooking, my face and body products to even cleaning! Coconut Oil is the new fad....or is it??? I believe someone just finally found the perfect oil!

SKIN - The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Fortunately, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin from the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays the appearance of wrinkles and sagging of skin which normally accompany aging. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Lastly, Coconut oil helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its well-known antioxidant properties.

CHOLESTEROL- Coconut oil has been demonized in the past because it contains saturated fat. In fact, coconut oil is one of the richest sources of saturated fat known to man, with almost 90% of the fatty acids in it being saturated. Saturated fats actually raise HDL (the good) cholesterol.

PERFECT EXAMPLE- I have a great friend who recently went to the doctor and found out her cholesterol level was 217. She refused the typical solution of doctors, which is to write a script for a cholesterol reducing medicine. Instead, she chose to try to lower her cholesterol herself (kudos to her because most people would opt for the easy way out, and take the medicine!). Her ONLY change was replacing her normal cooking oil with coconut oil. After three months, she revisited the doctor to see if her levels reduced. Her total cholesterol was now 179!!!!! The doctor swore he prescribed her medicine and was shocked by the results.

DIGESTION - Coconut oil helps to improve the digestive system and thus prevents various stomach and digestion-related problems including Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The saturated fats present in coconut oil have antimicrobial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, and parasites that can cause indigestion. Coconut oil also helps in the absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Other uses for Coconut Oil:

1. As a coffee creamer.
2. As an eye-makeup remover.
3. As a diaper cream.
4. To prevent stretch marks during pregnancy.
5. As a naturally SPF 4 sunscreen.
6. A tiny dab rubbed on your hands and then through hair will help get rid of frizz.
7. As an incredibly intensive natural conditioner. I rub a generous amount into dry hair and leave on for 30-60 minutes before rinsing. I then shampoo and condition as normal.
8. Can help speed healing of sunburn.
9. Can reduce the itch of mosquito bites.
10. On cuticles to help nails grow.
11. As a wood or leather cleaner. Be sure to wipe with dry towel after so you do not get oil on your clothes.
12. And much more!

So, my point is, if you're not using coconut oil now, start adding it in any of the ways I mentioned today! There are so many benefits to coconut oil, I cannot list them all.

<![CDATA[Welcome to Pure & Simple Organics!]]>Mon, 02 Jun 2014 14:50:13 GMThttp://pureandsimpleorganics.org/blog/welcome-to-pure-simple-organics Hello and WELCOME to Pure & Simple Organics! I am happy you decided to visit my website and hope you find everything you need. Should you have any questions or special requests, please email me at katrina@pureandsimpleorganics.org.

Let me give you a little background of myself and how this all started. I am married, and a mother of one, beautiful, yet spunky daughter! At the time of this blog, she is 4.5 years old. I began making my own organic products because of her. She has very sensitive skin, including eczema. I had read that Shea Butter and Coconut Oil help relieve eczema (in addition to certain dietary changes). The more and more I researched about various products, I eventually just told myself, 'Forget it, I'm just going to make my own!'. Seriously, I did! My husband thought I was crazy at first, but now LOVES that I make all of our own products.

Fast forward a few months and I started to play with other recipes.....which eventually led to more and more and more! Yes, I am that type of girl! I research extensively, then apply it to my life. I have done that in many areas such as exercise, nutrition and much more.

Now, fast forward a little over a year, and I have had NUMEROUS people tell me I should sell my products. Finally, it just hit me one day. I started my Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/pureandsimpleorganics). It took off like crazy! So, I then decided to start this website so I could reach more people and have a better ordering system and a more professional appearance.

My family and I use EVERY ONE of my products I make, so I have first hand experience AND knowledge of every thing I sell.

I want to not only offer you great products, but also educate you on the various ingredients I use why I use them.

I hope you enjoy the website and browsing what I have to offer. Stop back frequently as I am ALWAYS finding new products to make.

Thanks again,

Katrina
